About this tool
Trimming is cutting with a different intent: rather than extracting a section from the middle, you are cleaning up the edges. The dead seconds before the action starts, the camera being switched off at the end, or the tail of a screen recording that runs on after the last useful moment.
The mechanics are the same as cutting — a start and an end time — and the same two modes apply. Because trimming usually means removing small amounts from each end, stream copy is often the right choice: it is instant and does not touch the quality of the footage that remains.

Frequently asked questions
Will trimming reduce the file size?
Yes, proportionally to the amount removed, as long as you re-encode. In stream-copy mode the size reduction tracks the trimmed duration but may not be perfectly proportional because keyframes carry more data.
Can I trim from the middle as well?
That is a cut rather than a trim. Use the video cutter for a section in the middle, or run this tool twice to keep two separate pieces.
Does trimming change the audio sync?
No. Video and audio are cut together, so the synchronisation is preserved. In stream-copy mode both streams start at the same keyframe boundary.
Can I trim a video on a phone?
Yes, though long files in memory can be heavy on older devices. Short clips trim comfortably in a mobile browser.
